So let me tell you about a dream I had. When Barry wanted to live aboard a boat I was all for it. At that time I think he felt I needed something more and thought a condo would work nicely in Victoria Harbour. But the reality was I didn't need that. I actually loved the adventure of living aboard. I dreamed of having a little cottage with a dock out front to moor our boat. That kind of dream is really expensive and Barry was wanting to wind down from work, not work more. But I am a believer so I merrily kept on dreaming my dream. In my dream I did not want a big house. I wanted something small and cozy. I am not a mansion kind of girl. I don't fault you if you are though. It just was not part of my vision. I loved living right on the water on our boat and being able to see the sea life up close and personal.
Victoria was lovely and I always thought it was inevitably where I wanted to end up. We spent four restless years there trying to find our niche and the closest we came was our cute little house in Cook Street Village. That house lives on in my dreams. She was a cozy little place and I met some friends that I will have for a life time I hope, but the sea was calling Barry and I found out it was whispering my name as well.
After one lives on the sea for nearly two years it is hard to think about being inland at all. I am pretty sure that if this little place never came up we would be on our boat indefinitely. But on one of our summer cruises we canoed into Garden Bay and I asked the usual question, "I wonder how much they want for that place?" When we returned to the boat we googled it and found out because it was on lease land (the land belongs to Sechelt Native Band, on the Sunshine Coast of BC) it was actually really affordable for us. This bay is the sweetest. It has a pub and a Vancouver Yacht Club next door and million dollar houses on the north side! And that we get to live here is amazing! The house itself was in great shape. And because it was so affordable I got to spend a bit on fixing her up! After we are done it will still be a quarter of what it would have cost for a condo and it is going to be sweet! Pinch me!
Anyway, I wanted to let you all know what I was up to. I have not been painting on canvases lately. I am painting on walls and choosing flooring, lighting, window coverings and paint! And for those who know me well, know I am in my glory having a creative project. We have been in the house for just over two weeks and already she looks like a different place. The people before used her as a summer cottage so she did not get as much love as they would have liked to give her, but she was in great condition and that is all we care about. This stuff is the jewelry and she is becoming a princess! Now that I have my own room to paint I wil be back to my art soon. Until then, I will keep you up to snuff with a few pics of my progress. Keep dreaming your best dream my friends!
