Two things are swimming around in my head this morning. One is that I bought Seth Godin's book at Chapters yesterday, Linchpin! I spent a luxurious night reading it while laying in a comfy bed overlooking the beautiful moon lit harbor in Victoria! The other thing was that I read an article where Jerry Seinfeld shares his success strategy for writing good material for his stand up comedy, with a young comedian!
So to start with, why am I so excited about Seth's book? Well Seth is all about creating! Do you ever keep bumping in to a person, or a concept and then read about them, or talk to them, and feel as though they are talking directly to you? Well this is how I feel when I am reading Seth's book, Lynchpin. He is a business school graduate of Harvard, and yet he writes about how there is an emerging class of successful business women (or men) in society that are not graduates of an esteemed business school.
He goes on to say that people are tiring of the mass consumption factory model that has engulfed the past few generation of our history. Basically, he asserts that we as a culture are now craving fewer "things", but with greater meaning. I know this may sound a little dry coming from me, but he talks about the artist emerging in this new market place as a leader.
This may seem like it is an exclusive membership because you have to be an "artist", but Seth assures us that there is a heart-centered authentic artist in all of us!!! Yes! This is what I have been talking about!
This book is more research based, but I feel like this will satisfy the part of the population that needs hard concrete, right in their face, written proof about the Law of Attraction in order to be able to embrace its truth! Well this is what Seth gives the reader. Sometimes I feel like I am all "woo woo" or Pollyanna about the way I think about how the world works (abundance thinking)! But rest assured, I have read the proof in many a book and realize that there is scientific proof to back up how the law of vibrational frequencies work and how it draws that like-energy back to us! However, I am not a linear thinker. I am a touchy- feel-y kind of thinker....more emotional and the proof I need is in my experiences I continue to manifest with this way of thinking.
But Seth will satisfy the businessman's need for more scientific data. I have to admit it even makes me feel a bit better! The other thing that he talks about is how using our art, whatever form of expression that we are passionate about, actually improves the state of our planet. I just feel like taking a big breath of relief when I read this. He basically says if you are passionate about it and create a business around that passion and work at continually, which will be easy because it is passion based, you cant help but succeed! And this is what the world needs to get healthy!
Now I know I really haven't done Seth Godin justice by my simple account of what his book is about to me, but I get a sense that I am on the right path and wanted to share this with you! If you need a more accurate account of what Seth is talking about you can look him up at the two links above. One to his book at Amazon and the other to his website!
Ok, the next thing I read was Jerry Seinfeld talking to a young comedian about how to write good comedic material. He said he gets a big calendar that has the whole year on one sheet. Then he gets a big old red marker. Every day he writes and puts a big X on the calendar for the day he wrote. He does this every day and pretty soon he has a big chain of Xs. His advise to the young guy is as simple as: "Do not break the chain"! That is it! I loved this....bells and whistles galore going off me! He doesn't say anything about quality, he just says he needs to write on a consistant and daily basis and be dedicated to his craft! This is also what I have been writing about in my blog! In order to do anything well, we have to be dedicated to doing it...to practicing our craft! LOVE!!!! Julia Cameron's morning pages are about this as well. She doesn't talk about the quality of your writing, just that we must write every day! The magic comes in being consistant! I get all excited when I read this again. It reminds me that if I keep practicing one day I will be a better painter, a better writer and most importantly...a better person! Yay!
